In yet another setback for President Obama and the majority Democrats in Congress, the 20 term congressman from Harlem New York says he will step down as chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.
As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other democrats begin to distance themselves from Rep. Rangel, this could spell the end for the powerful Democratic congressman who has been under investigation for various US House ethics violations.
The most recent ethics issue involving Rep. Charles Rangel, concerns his financial interest in Grupo Punta Cana, a company that owns and operates a sprawling beach front resort in the Dominican Republic. The group also owns and operates an international airport, three luxury housing developments, a shopping village, golf courses, a spa, seven restaurants and a marina.

Rep. Charles Rangel has never disclosed owning or acquiring any shares or interest in the company in 20 years of filing. While Rep. Rangel has also owned a beach front villa in the resort during that time, he rarely declared income on the property in federal filings.
Other violations include excepting “gifts” and corporate junkets to the Caribbean Island for himself and others. Rangel’s decision to step down came ahead of a vote scheduled today on a resolution to remove Rangel from his chairmanship. While sponsored by Republicans, it became clear that a large number of Democrats were also going to vote for his ouster.

yeah, looks like the old crooked beached whale that he is.
